What is Sexual Wellness?
Just as we talk about general health and wellness, sexual health is an integral part of overall well-being. It refers to physical, emotional, mental, and social well-being in relation to sexuality, not just the absence of disease or dysfunction.
Sexual wellness reflects how much satisfaction, pleasure, and confidence one experiences in their sexual life. It also involves having accurate knowledge, positive self-awareness, and respect for one’s own and others’ sexual rights. In essence, sexual wellness means approaching sexuality in a healthy, safe, and fulfilling way that includes emotional intimacy and personal authenticity.
Are Men Reluctant to Seek Help for Sexual Health? Why?
Partly yes, partly no. Many men are unaware of the concept of sexual wellness and still view sexuality as taboo. This discomfort in open discussions leads them to misinformation or quack remedies, often worsening their distress and self-image.
On the other hand, excessive consumption of sexual content on social media can distort understanding of real sexual connection, sometimes creating unrealistic expectations or hypersexual behaviors. Gradually, as global awareness improves—similar to the destigmatization of menstruation—more men are starting to take interest in understanding sexual pleasure and health scientifically.
Yet, the lingering link between masculinity, stigma, and sexual performance continues to prevent many from seeking appropriate professional consultation. Building sexual literacy remains central to improving men’s confidence and overall emotional wellness.

What Are Sexual Wellness Products?
The concept of sexual wellness products is not new to India. It dates back to the introduction of condoms—now available in diverse forms such as lubricated, dotted, flavored, and textured varieties, improving both safety and pleasure. Vending machines and online platforms have made access easier and more discreet.
The awareness and demand for sexual aids like lubricants and sex toys (for example, vibrators) are gradually increasing, especially among women. While these products may seem new to some, the stigma around their purchase is fading as more people recognize their role in promoting intimacy, exploration, and safe sexual expression.

Are Sexual Wellness Products Just a Trend or a Necessity? Are They Addictive?
They are better viewed as a necessity, not a passing trend. As societies grow more open about sexual health education, people are learning to exercise choice and consent responsibly.
Sexual wellness products enhance confidence, satisfaction, and awareness of personal preferences. They are not inherently addictive but must be used mindfully, as tools for enhancing intimacy, not replacing emotional connection. The greater openness and availability of information through social media and digital health platforms are helping normalize the conversation around these products.
